INDIA: False Charges Filed After Pastor Refuses Hindu Ritual

Pastor Rakesh was returning home from his farm on 8 December 2025 when a stranger approached him and began asking questions. The man then demanded that Rakesh say “Jai Sri Ram”, a Hindu slogan used in worship. When Rakesh refused, the man became aggressive. That night, he filed a complaint alleging that Rakesh had tried to convert him to Christianity.
Pastors and evangelists in India are frequently accused of forced conversion. Anti-conversion laws in several states have been used against them, and even when they are granted bail, court proceedings can continue for years. Rakesh has been granted bail, but opposition from local leaders who do not want Christians in the village has led him to appeal to a higher court.
Rakesh and his wife remain faithful to their calling despite pressure from their extended family to return to Hinduism and avoid further legal trouble. “It is the Lord that gives me courage,” Rakesh said. “I was a bit fearful at times, but if I die… I will be with the Lord Himself.”
Pray that the Lord will strengthen Rakesh and his wife as they face opposition in their village and pressure from their extended family.
Pray that Rakesh’s courage and faithfulness will be a witness to his family, neighbours and those involved in his case.
Pray for Christians in India who face false accusations of forced conversion, especially those enduring lengthy court proceedings.
