NIGERIA: Army Arrests Suspect Linked to Deaths of 30 Villagers

Nigerian troops have arrested 48-year-old Fulani Muslim Salihu Miakailu in connection with a deadly attack on Naridon, a predominantly Christian village in Kaduna State, where at least 30 residents were killed on 26 July.

Soldiers from Operation Enduring Peace detained Miakailu during an intelligence-led operation in neighbouring Plateau State on 3 August. He remains in military custody as investigators examine his alleged role in the attack and search for possible accomplices.

According to residents, armed assailants stormed Naridon late at night on 26 July, firing weapons, entering homes and setting buildings ablaze. Community leaders said at least 30 people, including women and children, were killed while trying to escape. Seven others were injured.

Witnesses reported that attackers entered a church during the assault and mocked the congregation. Survivors also alleged that soldiers stationed nearby failed to respond until after the attackers had left. Military authorities have not publicly addressed those claims.

The arrest is part of broader security efforts targeting suspects linked to violent attacks in Kaduna and Plateau states. Survivors have called on the authorities to improve security, bring those responsible to justice and protect residents returning to their homes.
